Integrated stratigraphy of the middle-upper Eocene Souar Formation (Tunisian dorsal): Implications for the Middle Eocene Climatic Optimum (MECO) in the SW Neo-Tethys

چکیده
Calcareous nannofossil biostratigraphy and carbon-isotope stratigraphy on bulk organics of the middle-upper Eocene Souar Formation (Tunisia) allow for a refined this interval in southwestern Neo-Tethys margin. The represents deepest sedimentary deposits central northern Tunisian Basin was only dated previously by coarse data planktonic foraminifera. Together with our new data, correlation is proposed to previous records Halk El Menzal carbonate platform NE shallow-water Tunisia SW, which leads us erection synthetic stratigraphic chart northeastern Tunisia. Our results review accurate position Lutetian / Bartonian Priabonian stage boundaries relative calcareous biohorizons. We apply Bayesian statistics build age-depth model points hiatus (CNE12 Zone) that we relate middle regressive sequence leading Lu-4 M-cycle. Radiolarian-rich sediments cherts late early are interpreted as response an increase productivity, tied seasonal upwelling nutrient-rich waters. Correlation other sections highlights strong contrast facies between carbonate-rich sequences edges dorsal silica-rich deposition Formation. This particularly pronounced before across Middle Climatic Optimum (MECO) characterized maximum nummulitic production minimum deep basinal parts dorsal, rather dominated sediments.

Microbiostratigraphy of Middle Eocene ShahbazanFormation at the southeastern flank of Chenar Anticline,Lurestan Basin, Sw Iran
In this research, biostratigraphy related to the carbonate succession of the Shahbazan Formation at the southeastern flank of Chenar anticline, Lurestan Basin, is discussed. A study of large benthic foraminifera from the 294 mthick Shahbazan Formation led to the identification of two Middle Eocene biozones: Somalina sp. Zone, Nummulites-Alveolina Assemblage Zone. The age of the Shahbazan Format...

متن کاملLarger benthic foraminifera from the Middle Eocene
Larger benthic foraminifera (LBF) are common and diverse throughout the Paleogene sediments of southern Tanzania, but have previously been little studied. A recent programme of onshore drilling known as the Tanzania Drilling Project has recovered large proportion of this succession for palaeoclimatic and palaeontological study. The sediment is largely a hemipelagic clay with secondary gravity s...
